Top skincare tips for women in their 50s

Ali Khan by Ali Khan

Our skincare kits mature with us as we rise and age. If anti-acne heroes occupied skincare tips your vanity shelf in your twenties, anti-aging potions are apt to take their place when you get older. Our skin’s desires, issues, and requirements shift as we age, but looking and feeling your best doesn’t necessitate a full redesign.

In this article, we will discuss the simple swaps and modifications you can make to provide your skin with the treatment it needs in your 50s.

The most prominent skincare issues after the age of 50

The texture of our skin matures with us as we age, which can lead to a variety of skincare issues. With age, skin cell turnover slows from a typical 28-day period to more than 45 days. This results in dead skin cells remaining on the surface for longer, giving the skin a grey look. This is accompanied by a decrease in collagen, elastin, and fat under the skin—structures that raise and tighten the skin. As a result, the skin becomes lighter and more transparent, highlighting the blood vessels.

Because of menopausal modifications in females, levels of estrogen plummet the hormone that gives suppleness and moisture to the skin. Causing the face to look dry and wrinkly. Though naturally acidic, the skin pH level begins to become more alkaline at this age, resulting in moisture loss and increased skin sensitivity.

Dry, dull skin, open pores, deep folds and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and brown spots on the face and hands, sagging in the mid and lower face, changes in nose shape and lip thinning, necklines, and droopy eyes are the most common skincare concerns.

In your 50s, you can build the following skincare routines:

If the list may seem to be insurmountable, assistance is still available. We agree that cultivating a few conscientious practices will help turn back the clock on age-related skincare issues. What is the top priority? Changing or upgrading your skincare regimen so that succeeded in your 40s might not work in your 50s.

1. Apply sunscreen and moisturize thoroughly.

Establishing a vigilant sunscreen regimen every day—even indoors—is often important. Sunscreen is a must-have in your skincare arsenal because photoaging will exacerbate the changes your skin is experiencing. As the skin becomes very dry at this age, you may need to use moisturizers that are richer and deeper in texture. Using stem cells and peptides in the routine will also help improve skin wellbeing.

2. Mildly exfoliate

Antioxidant skincare products and retinol everyday treatment can also be used to reduce the normal wear and tear on the skin and promote skin cell turnover. Once a week, incorporate enzyme peels or AHA/BHA masks for chemical exfoliation into your routine to exfoliate dead skin and stimulate skin appearance.

3. Shield your eyes, ears, and lips as well.

If you’re trying to expand your skincare arsenal, it’s also a good idea to keep an eye out for possible risks. Developing a diligent neck routine is also essential, as the skin on the neck will reveal one’s age. Even if you’re using the same facial goods, it’s a good idea to include the collar, head, décolletage, and hands in your routine as well. This can be supplemented with a good lip-care and eye-care regimen since the region thins with age.
